Michael Carrick Eyes Francisco Conceicao for Manchester United

Michael Carrick has identified his next statement signing. And this time, Manchester United’s gaze has settled firmly on Turin.

According to Italian outlet TuttoJuve, Carrick is pushing for a move to bring Juventus winger Francisco Conceicao to Old Trafford in the summer of 2026, seeing the Portugal international as a tailor‑made fit for his evolving United side.

Carrick’s wide-angle vision

United have not been quiet this summer. Five signings are already through the door: Karl Darlow to bolster the goalkeeping ranks, Kit Margetson and Tynan Thompson as part of a younger core, Andrey Santos in midfield, and Youri Tielemans adding proven Premier League craft.

That rebuild is far from complete. A third midfield arrival remains on the agenda, while co-owners INEOS are also working on bringing in a striker to ease the load on Benjamin Sesko.

Yet Carrick’s eye has drifted to the flanks. Specifically, to one of Serie A’s most dangerous wide operators.

Conceicao, 23, has grown into a key figure at Juventus, operating mainly from the right but comfortable on either wing. Across the 2025/26 season he delivered four goals and five assists in 42 appearances in all competitions, numbers that only tell part of the story for a winger prized for his directness and one‑v‑one threat.

TuttoJuve report that United view Conceicao as “the perfect fit” for their project, with Carrick said to particularly value his ability to beat defenders, create chances and switch flanks without losing impact. In a Premier League that increasingly revolves around breaking packed defences, that kind of unpredictability has become gold dust.

Juventus dig in

There is, however, a sizeable obstacle. Conceicao is tied to Juventus until 2030, and the Bianconeri are in no mood to invite a bargain.

The Italian club’s stance is blunt. They want to keep him. Any club wanting to change that will have to pay. A lot.

Juventus have set an asking price of around €50 million (£43m, $57.4m), a figure that, as TuttoJuve point out, would secure a significant capital gain on the investment they made only a year ago. It is also a clear signal of how highly they rate the winger and how reluctant they are to entertain lower offers.

From Turin, the message is consistent: Conceicao fits seamlessly into Luciano Spalletti’s plans and is not among the players earmarked for departure in this window. Only what the report calls a “truly unmarketable” offer — the kind that forces boardrooms to pause and recalibrate — would persuade Juventus to even consider a sale.

A test of United’s ambition

For United, preparing for a return to the Champions League under Carrick, the pursuit of Conceicao would be more than just another addition. It would be a declaration that this rebuild is aimed at the very top, built around players who can decide games in tight European nights as much as on domestic weekends.

The recruitment drive already has structure: a deeper midfield, support for Sesko, a squad that can cope with the dual demands of the Premier League and Europe. A winger of Conceicao’s profile would add a different edge — the kind that stretches defences, unsettles full-backs and turns rigid patterns into chaos.
