Bradley Barcola’s Premier League Debut for Liverpool

Red alert at Portman Road. The first glimpse of Liverpool’s new €125 million gamble.

Bradley Barcola, barely through the door at Anfield after his blockbuster move from PSG, finally tasted Premier League football for the first time in his career. No soft landing either: a tight, noisy Portman Road, a promoted Ipswich side desperate to make a statement, and a Liverpool team already in control.

He entered the stage in the 64th minute, with the Reds two goals to the good. The scoreline never moved. Liverpool closed it out, 2-0, job done.

The result will slide quietly into the records of this 3rd Premier League matchday. Barcola’s debut will not. This was the first real look at the Frenchman in a Liverpool shirt, the first stride in what the club clearly believes will be a long, decisive chapter.

For the full unveiling, though, everyone has to wait.

The real curtain-raiser comes next Wednesday, under the Anfield lights, when Liverpool open the new Champions League league phase against Atlético de Madrid. That is the night ringed in red on the calendar, the one destined to belong to Barcola and the Kop.

And when the stadium finally rises to greet its new star signing, that first roar will tell him exactly what this transfer is meant to become.
