The Barcola deal drops straight into that elite bracket and reinforces a clear pattern: this is a club intent on staying at the sharp end of the Premier League and Champions League, having already splashed heavily on top-tier talents such as Florian Wirtz.

On the other side of the table, PSG will book the largest sale in their history, a landmark exit as Luis Enrique continues to reshape a squad packed with star names but in need of renewal.

Exit signs in Paris, open doors at Anfield

The writing was on the wall in Paris. Barcola’s omission from Luis Enrique’s squad for the recent 2-2 draw with Rennes was a glaring signal that the club were preparing for life without him. With personal terms already in place, the winger has simply been waiting for the final green light to travel and complete the formalities in England.
