Barcelona Secures Rodri Transfer from Manchester City

For a club constantly juggling finances while trying to remain competitive at the top of La Liga and in Europe, it is a tidy bonus for work done long ago on the training pitches.

Rayo Majadahonda, where Rodri first kicked a ball in organised youth football, will see nothing. He left their setup at 11, just outside the age band covered by the solidarity mechanism. One year earlier in his development, and their balance sheet would look very different today.

Villarreal, though, are firmly in the money. The Yellow Submarine nurtured Rodri for five key seasons, including two in their youth system and three in the first team. They saw his rise up close, then watched him depart for Atletico in 2018 before he made the leap to City a year later in a big-money move.
