According to The Sun, the London club are preparing an official £70 million bid for the Brazil international, a move that would light up the window and test Newcastle’s resolve to the limit.

Newcastle’s stance is clear: they do not want to sell. Guimaraes is central to their project and a symbol of their resurgence. But Arsenal sense an opening.

Initial, indirect conversations through intermediaries suggested the Premier League champions were weighing an offer closer to £60 million. That figure is now being pushed higher, with the Gunners ready to put £70 million on the table in an attempt to force Newcastle into a decision.

The pressure on Tyneside is growing for another reason. The same report claims Guimaraes has informed Newcastle officials that he wants the move to the Emirates Stadium. If that position holds, the dynamic of the negotiations changes completely and could accelerate talks between the two clubs in the coming days.

Up front, the focus remains on Julian Alvarez. Arsenal’s interest has not gone away, but the message from Atletico Madrid is blunt both in public and behind closed doors: the Argentine striker is not for sale. That resistance has not yet cracked, leaving Arsenal to weigh whether to keep pushing or look elsewhere as the clock ticks down.

Across Europe, another name hovers on the market. Bradley Barcola could leave Paris Saint-Germain during this window, with Liverpool currently the closest to striking a deal for the Frenchman. For now, that battle looks likely to play out away from north London.
