Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign 16-year-old striker Vincent Joseph from Liverpool, with only a compensation figure left to be thrashed out between the clubs.

Joseph, a highly rated product of Liverpool’s academy, has built a reputation as a ruthless finisher in the youth ranks. Comfortable leading the line or dropping into the No 10 role, he has been “scoring freely” for years in the Reds’ system, according to Anfield Insights.

He made the step up to Liverpool’s U18s last season and adapted instantly, scoring three goals in his first two appearances at that level. On the international stage, the teenager has eight goals in nine games for England U16s and is also eligible to represent Germany.

Manchester United explored a surprise move for Joseph back in March, but it is Arsenal who have won the race. As reported by The Athletic, the forward allowed his schoolboy contract at Liverpool to run down and opted not to sign a scholarship with the club, opening the door for Arsenal to move.

Arteta’s side have an agreement in place with the youngster, and the two clubs are now in talks over a fee. If they cannot settle on a figure, the matter will go to a tribunal.

In that scenario, the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) would decide the amount, weighing up factors such as Joseph’s age, his playing record, how long he spent at Liverpool, the status of both clubs and the contract terms each side put forward.

Those close to his development believe Arsenal may be landing a future gem. Joseph has even drawn comparisons to Jamal Musiala, underlining the level of expectation around his potential.

Elite No 9 hunt: Alvarez and Osimhen on the table

Arsenal’s youth recruitment is only one part of a broader overhaul of their forward line. At senior level, the club are still hunting a top-class No 9 to compete with – and potentially upgrade on – current options, with Viktor Gyokeres a long-standing reference point for the type of striker they want.

Contact remains open with Julian Alvarez, with Arsenal monitoring his situation closely. The Argentina international, though, would ideally prefer a move to Barcelona, leaving the Gunners needing alternative plans if that route closes.

One of those alternatives is Victor Osimhen. According to The Telegraph, Arsenal and Galatasaray discussed the Nigeria striker during talks involving Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri, with his name firmly on the agenda.

Sources indicate Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all held internal conversations about whether to move for Osimhen amid suggestions his price tag has dropped to well below the £100m mark. United have since cooled their interest, which hands Arsenal and Spurs a cleaner run at the deal.

The numbers would still be huge. Even with Galatasaray now more open to negotiating a slightly reduced fee, Osimhen would command a major outlay and a substantial wage package to tempt him to the Premier League.

Arsenal, though, are acting like a club determined to attack both ends of the market at once: snapping up a 16-year-old compared to Musiala, while keeping themselves in the conversation for one of Europe’s most feared No 9s and maintaining strong interest in a Barcelona star.

If they land even one of those senior targets to go with Joseph’s arrival, Arteta’s forward line could look very different – and far more dangerous – by the time the new season settles into its stride.
