Alyssa Thompson Named Player of the Match in Chelsea's 3-0 Victory

Alyssa Thompson has been voted Player of the Match after a relentless display in Chelsea’s 3-0 win in Sydney, capping a successful pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia.

The USA international was at the heart of everything sharp and dangerous in attack. She played a key role in the build-up to both of Chelsea’s opening goals, finished by Sandy Baltimore and Sjoeke Nusken, as the visitors took control in front of a lively Australian crowd.

The pressure she applied in the final third set the tone. Thompson stretched the game, drove at defenders, and repeatedly forced Sydney back towards their own box, allowing Chelsea’s forward line to swarm around second balls and loose touches.

Supporters clearly noticed. Thompson collected 29 per cent of the vote on the Chelsea Official App, edging a fiercely contested poll after the commanding 3-0 victory.

Baltimore, who struck the first of the night, pushed her all the way with 27 per cent, while Lexi Potter – scorer of Chelsea’s third – claimed 23 per cent to underline the depth of attacking quality on show.

A tour that began as a fitness exercise ended with a statement performance and a standout individual display.
