Yves Bissouma Closing in on Ajax Move

Yves Bissouma is closing in on a move to Ajax, with the former Tottenham midfielder set to sign an initial deal running until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old, a free agent since leaving Spurs in June, is in Amsterdam to put the final touches on his return to top-flight football in the Netherlands. The agreement is expected to include an option to extend his stay in the Eredivisie by a further 12 months.

For Ajax, it is a calculated move for experience and bite in midfield. For Bissouma, it is a chance to restart.

The Mali international arrived at Tottenham in 2022 after a standout spell at Brighton, joining in a high-profile transfer that underlined his growing reputation in the Premier League. He went on to make 111 appearances for the north London club, offering energy and aggression at the base of midfield.

His Spurs story, though, faded. In August 2025, then-manager Thomas Frank omitted Bissouma from the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Paris St-Germain, citing persistent lateness. It was a clear marker of how far his status at the club had slipped.

Now the setting changes. Amsterdam instead of London. Ajax instead of Spurs.

If the deal is completed as expected, Bissouma will walk into a dressing room that demands both technical quality and discipline. The contract length and option underline it: this is an audition as much as a signing.

The next few months will show whether the midfielder who once dominated Premier League midfields can reassert himself in the calmer, but no less demanding, stage of the Eredivisie.
