Yves Bissouma set for Ajax move

Yves Bissouma is closing in on a return to football, with Ajax set to hand the former Tottenham midfielder a short-term lifeline in Amsterdam.

The 30-year-old, released by Spurs in June at the end of his contract, is finalising an initial deal that will run until the end of the season, with an option for a further 12 months. The Mali international is already in the Dutch capital to complete the move to the Eredivisie giants.

For Bissouma, it marks a fresh chapter after a turbulent end to his time in north London. He joined Tottenham from Brighton in 2022 in a high-profile switch and went on to make 111 appearances for the club, anchoring the midfield across domestic and European competitions.

His spell at Spurs, though, lost momentum. In August 2025, then Tottenham manager Thomas Frank omitted him from the squad to face Paris St-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup, citing persistent lateness. That decision underlined how far his stock had fallen at a club where he once arrived as a marquee signing.

Now comes a reset. Ajax, rebuilding and searching for experience in the middle of the pitch, are prepared to bet on Bissouma’s pedigree and presence. The contract structure — a deal to the end of the season with an extra year on the table — reflects that: opportunity for the player, protection for the club.

If the move goes through as expected, Amsterdam offers him something priceless at this stage of his career: a clean slate and a demanding stage on which to prove he still belongs at the top level.
