Tottenham's Bomba Signings: Savio and Marmoush Join Spurs

Roberto De Zerbi called them “bomba” – and for once, the word doesn’t feel like an exaggeration.

Tottenham have landed Savio and Omar Marmoush in a statement double deal from Manchester City, and their head coach could barely hide his excitement as he surveyed a summer that has already blown past expectations and budgets alike.

De Zerbi revels in ‘bomba’ business

Spurs wrapped up an £85million package for Savio, a long-term target, and agreed a season-long loan for Marmoush that carries an obligation to buy. That clause could push the Egypt international’s fee towards £60m, nudging Tottenham’s total outlay this summer beyond the £350m mark.

De Zerbi, speaking before Newcastle’s visit to north London on Saturday, didn’t bother to play it down.

“I think Savio and Marmoush are bomba,” he said. “I don’t know what name or how you can call them but players of a high level, for sure.

“I didn’t expect one transfer market and one window like we have done.”

The spending may not be over. With the deadline set for 11pm on Tuesday, De Zerbi hinted there is room – and appetite – for one more move.

“I think we can do one player more and in one specific position,” he revealed. “But yesterday we went for dinner with the owners, with Vinai, with Johan and with Enrico. We spoke about this, but we have all of us on the same page and there is a very good connection.”

Marmoush adds bite to a stretched attack

Marmoush becomes Tottenham’s eighth signing of the summer and arrives to ease the strain in the most delicate area of the pitch. James Maddison is still short of full fitness, Mohammed Kudus is only just back after a long tendon injury, and the calendar is already tightening.

Into that picture walks an attacker who has been productive wherever he has gone. Marmoush hit 37 goals in a prolific 18-month spell at Eintracht Frankfurt and followed that with 16 at Manchester City. He brings goals, but also flexibility: an option as a central striker, a different profile of No10, and a threat running beyond.

“A great signing for us. A great player, another great player and every one of us loves him as a player,” De Zerbi said.

“We hope he can do what he is able. I think he can give more solutions in attack. We need players in attack capable to score goals, to play well with the ball also, a very fast player, great qualities and we are all happy.

“I think he can play as a central striker. He is a different number 10 than Gallagher or Maddison, more of an attacker, but he is a player of big qualities. The most important thing is to have players with qualities.”

Even with that endorsement, Marmoush may have to settle for a place on the bench against Newcastle as he beds into a forward line already reshaped by the summer.

Savio primed, Kudus close, captaincy settled

If Marmoush might wait, Savio is being lined up for a full debut. The Brazilian’s arrival has been long in the making and De Zerbi appears ready to throw him straight into the Premier League rhythm.

There were encouraging signs in midweek. New captain Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro both featured in Wednesday’s 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Charlton and are in contention to start again, adding continuity to a side that suddenly has depth in key areas.

Kudus, sidelined since January, is expected to be in the squad for the first time this year. His return, combined with the arrivals of Savio and Marmoush, turns what was a thin attacking department into one bristling with options and competition.

Sarr future in the balance

Not everyone’s path is as clear. Pape Sarr remains available for selection, but his situation hangs over the final days of the window.

“Pape? No, he’s good. We have to see in the last day of the transfer market what can happen with him,” De Zerbi said.

Then came the blunt edge that has already become a hallmark of his reign.

“If you want to leave and you have not found the offer, it’s your problem, not my problem. I give respect, I kiss you, I hug you, but at the end have to stay calm inside the dressing room.”

Tottenham’s squad, once threadbare and tentative, now looks stacked and aggressive. One more signing could still arrive before the shutters come down on Tuesday night. The real question is whether this “bomba” summer can now ignite a season that matches the scale of the investment.
