Toby Collyer Chooses West Brom Over Hull City

Toby Collyer has chosen West Brom – and a reunion with James Morrison – over Hull City, with Manchester United agreeing a deal that could rise to £7.6m.

The 22-year-old midfielder is set to return to The Hawthorns after a loan spell there last season, with United banking an initial £3m. Add-ons take the total package close to eight million, and United have also inserted a hefty 40% sell-on clause, a clear sign they still rate his long-term potential.

This was not a straightforward decision. Collyer had been weighing up offers from both West Brom and Hull, having also spent time on loan with the Tigers during the 2025/26 campaign. At one stage, West Brom looked in control. Then Hull moved to the front of the queue. The race swung back and forth.

Morrison turned it.

The Baggies boss is understood to have played a key role in convincing Collyer to commit to the Midlands club, leaning on the relationship built during the first half of last season. Collyer’s minutes were limited because of injury, but when he did feature, he left a strong impression on the West Brom manager.

The message this time was clear: more responsibility, more trust, more time on the pitch.

That prospect of increased playing time has been central to Collyer’s choice. At 22, with his Old Trafford pathway blocked and his body now over the worst of its setbacks, he needed somewhere he could grow into a leading role rather than fight for scraps.

West Brom have offered that platform. United have protected their upside.

Now Collyer has to prove both clubs right.
