Sofie Lundgaard Joins Eintracht Frankfurt After Leaving Liverpool

Sofie Lundgaard leaves Liverpool for Eintracht Frankfurt as ACL-hit spell ends

Liverpool have parted ways with midfielder Sofie Lundgaard, who has completed a permanent move to Eintracht Frankfurt for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old arrived on Merseyside in January 2023 and went on to make 42 appearances, a tally that hints at her influence but also at what might have been. Her time at the club was repeatedly interrupted by serious injury.

Two anterior cruciate ligament ruptures across three-and-a-half years left Lundgaard fighting for rhythm and continuity. When she did get on the pitch, she offered Liverpool energy and presence in midfield, but the stop-start nature of her spell ultimately defined her stay.

Now she heads to the Frauen-Bundesliga, joining an Eintracht Frankfurt side with European ambitions and a reputation for developing talent. Before Liverpool, Lundgaard built her name at Fortuna Hjorring, one of Denmark’s leading clubs, and Frankfurt will hope to tap back into that form with a fresh start and a clean slate.

Birmingham knocked back in Fatou Kanteh chase

While Lundgaard moves on, another potential transfer has hit a wall.

Birmingham City have seen a bid rejected by Sevilla for Gambia winger Fatou Kanteh. The Women’s Super League side are understood to have tabled an offer in the region of 100,000 Euros (£85,000), but Sevilla have made their stance clear: they value the 29-year-old significantly higher and do not want to sell.

The response has cooled the chase. Birmingham are not expected to return with an improved proposal, leaving Kanteh set to continue in Liga F, where she has spent her entire career.

Kanteh has scored 12 goals in 63 matches for Sevilla, adding direct running and end product from wide areas. Before establishing herself there, she turned out for Villarreal, Huelva and Logrono, building a solid reputation in Spain’s top flight.

For now, Sevilla are holding their line. And Birmingham, it seems, will have to look elsewhere for their next attacking spark.
