Sacha Boey's Future at Bayern Munich: Vincent Kompany's Support

Vincent Kompany has drawn a line under Sacha Boey’s turbulent summer and thrown his weight behind the full-back’s Bayern Munich future.

Bayern spent the window trying to move the Frenchman on, but no acceptable bid landed on the table before the deadline. The market closed, Boey stayed – and Kompany made it clear the situation has now flipped.

“Now the transfer window is closed, and Sacha is part of our team and has our support,” the Bayern coach said in his press conference. “My role now is that he performs.”

The backing is real, but so is the reality. The right-back lane is already crowded.

“We have Josip Stanišić and Konrad Laimer in the position, and competition is already fierce,” Kompany stressed.

So Boey, who has endured months of uncertainty over his status, now faces a different kind of fight: one for minutes, not for a move.

“You need patience and hard work,” Kompany said. “But anything can happen in football if you have the right attitude.”

The Belgian was keen to underline that Boey has not been cast aside on the training pitch. Quite the opposite.

“We're simply treating him with respect. He's training very well at the moment, and everything else will fall into place.”

Behind that message of support sits a broader view of how Bayern operate at the sharp end of elite football. Kompany pulled back the curtain slightly on the internal conversations that shaped Boey’s summer.

“What I've seen working with Max Eberl and Christoph Freund is that the club is clear and straightforward; also in dealings with players,” he explained.

Those talks can hurt. Players are told, bluntly, when they are no longer in the club’s plans or when a transfer is being pursued.

“It's not always pleasant for the player,” Kompany admitted, “but you also gain a lot of respect from the players when you speak to them clearly and honestly.”

The window is shut now. The message is set. For Sacha Boey, the only answer left is on the pitch.
