Real Madrid Pursues Yan Diomande in €100 Million Chase

Real Madrid crank up the machine again. Another summer, another galáctico chase. Only this time, the name lighting up the Bernabéu switchboard isn’t a long-established star, but a 19-year-old winger who has just exploded onto Europe’s radar: Yan Diomande.

Real Madrid vs Leipzig: the numbers on the table

Amid talk of Michael Olise, Alessandro Bastoni and Rodrigo Hernández, Madrid have moved decisively for the Ivorian. According to Bild, the Spanish champions have already opened negotiations with RB Leipzig, putting down an initial offer of €100 million ($113 million).

Leipzig’s response? Thanks, but no.

The German club value Diomande at around €130 million ($148 million). The distance between the two positions is real, but not dramatic. Inside the market, figures close to €120 million ($137 million) are being floated as a realistic landing point if the deal gathers pace.

And it is gathering pace.

A bidding war at the top of Europe

Madrid are not walking into an empty room. Liverpool have already tested Leipzig’s resolve with a €100 million bid of their own, also rejected. Paris Saint-Germain remain firmly in the race and, until very recently, looked to be in pole position.

Diomande had gone as far as agreeing a preliminary five-year deal with PSG. That agreement now sits on ice. As Diario AS has learned, the player has put that outline contract on hold after Madrid stepped in.

It is a familiar pattern. Last year, Franco Mastantuono seemed destined for the Parc des Princes before Madrid changed the script. The Spanish giants have done the same here: one phone call, one proposal, and the entire board is reset.

Diomande has publicly identified the reigning European champions as his preferred destination in the past. That detail matters. When the money is similar at this level, the pull of the white shirt often does the rest.

The Roc Nation connection

There is also a powerful off-field link. Diomande is represented by Roc Nation Sports, the U.S.-based agency founded by Jay-Z. It is the same agency that manages Vinícius Júnior.

Roc Nation are currently involved in talks over Vinícius’ contract extension at Madrid, with the Brazilian’s current deal due to expire next summer. Those conversations and relationships are already in motion. They give all parties an existing channel of trust and communication at a delicate moment in the window.

When a club knows the agency, the agency knows the club, and both sides know how the other negotiates, deals of this size become easier to build.

Leipzig stand firm – in public

Leipzig, for their part, are projecting calm. They know what they have, they know what Europe wants, and they know that keeping Diomande for another year will be a monumental task.

Sporting director Marcel Schäfer did not flinch on Wednesday: “Our intention is for Yan Diomande to play for Leipzig next season.” The club, owned by Red Bull, are also working on extending the winger’s contract beyond 2030.

Intention, though, is one thing. A nine-figure offer from Madrid, Liverpool or PSG is another. Leipzig are a selling club with a clear model: develop, showcase, sell high, reinvest. Diomande sits right at the heart of that strategy.

From Leganés to the €100m club

The scale of his rise is staggering.

Just a year ago, Diomande signed his first major contract when Leipzig paid €20 million ($23 million) to take him from Leganés. At that point, the winger had only 10 LaLiga appearances behind him.

Ten games. That was all.

Leipzig saw enough. They bet on his acceleration, his one-on-one ability, his work rate. The return has been spectacular. In his debut Bundesliga season, Diomande produced 15 goals and 11 assists, numbers that instantly placed him among Europe’s breakout stars.

Leganés watch the jackpot roll

When Leganés sold Diomande last summer, they did not just cash in €20 million. They also kept 10% of the profit from any future sale. That clause is about to pay off in a way few could have imagined when he was still learning his trade in LaLiga.

If the final fee lands close to €100 million or more, Leganés will bank another significant sum. Between the original transfer and the sell-on percentage, the club could end up pocketing around €30 million ($34 million) for a player who only made 10 top-flight appearances for them.

For a club of their size, that is transformative money. For Diomande, it is confirmation of how fast his value has exploded.
