PSV Targets Summer Transfers: Geertruida, Kostic, and Sano

On the surface, PSV’s summer looks strangely calm. No transfer frenzy, no daily unveiling on the club channels. But behind the still water, there is movement.

Technical director Earnest Stewart has drawn his lines clearly: a left-back, a centre-back and a defensive midfielder must arrive before the window closes. Three names sit in bold at the top of the list.

Geertruida deal advances, but battle looms

Lutsharel Geertruida is the headline target. According to Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, PSV have been working on the deal for “several weeks already” and have now reached a personal agreement with the versatile defender.

That’s only half the job.

RB Leipzig are holding out for a €20 million fee, and Feyenoord are pushing to bring Geertruida back to Rotterdam. PSV have their man on side, but not yet in the building. The tug of war is set: the player is willing, the price is steep, and the competition is real.

Kostic on the radar, but not alone

On the left flank, Filip Kostic sits high on Eindhoven’s wishlist. The Serbian is a free agent after leaving Juventus, which makes him attractive, but far from uncomplicated.

Kostic has options. AEK Athens have already put a contract on the table, and other suitors are circling. PSV see him as a ready-made upgrade on the wing, but they are not the only ones offering him a new stage.

Sano the ideal fit, at the wrong price

In midfield, the ideal profile is clear: Kodai Sano of NEC. PSV like him. Sano likes PSV. His agent, José Fortez Rodriguez, is also open to the move.

The problem is the number.

NEC are reportedly asking around €18 million. For PSV, that is still too high. The interest is serious, the admiration mutual, yet the deal sits in a holding pattern until either the price drops or PSV’s budget stretches.

Outgoings on hold, urgency muted

The tempo of incoming business is being dictated by players who have not yet left.

Mauro Júnior, Joey Veerman and Sergiño Dest all remain in Eindhoven. Their situations shape everything. As long as they stay, the urgency for new signings remains low.

Mauro went a step further on Friday, stating at a press conference that he will “definitely” stay at PSV. With Jerdy Schouten sidelined by a knee injury, the Brazilian wears the captain’s armband. His stance gives the squad a measure of stability in a summer of quiet negotiations.

Veerman and Dest are different stories. Both have clear price tags: €20 million for Veerman, €23 million for Dest. Both are open to a move abroad. Yet the market has not moved with them. No bids, no breakthroughs, only waiting.

As Elfrink put it, these are players who would like to take a step abroad, but if they remain, they are “obviously not in the way.” For Stewart and PSV, that cuts both ways: security in the present, uncertainty for the plan.

So PSV continue to work in the shadows. Agreements without signatures. Targets without green lights. A squad that could yet change shape dramatically—if someone, somewhere, finally makes the first big move.
