PSG's Tactical Changes Ahead of Lille Match
Paris Saint-Germain head to Lille on Friday night still searching for their first Ligue 1 win of the season, and Luis Enrique is ready to jolt his side into life.
Held 2-2 at home by Rennes on the opening weekend, the champions travel north under early scrutiny. The response will not be subtle. According to L'Équipe, Enrique is preparing four changes to the XI that stumbled out of the blocks at the Parc des Princes.
Defensive reshuffle on the flanks
Nuno Mendes remains sidelined through injury, so there is no return for the Portugal international at left-back. That does not mean continuity in that role, though.
Lucas Digne is expected to come in on the left, replacing Lucas Hernández. Experience, delivery from deep, and a more natural full-back profile — Enrique is clearly looking for a different balance on that side.
On the opposite flank, the shake-up is even bolder. Warren Zaïre-Emery is tipped to start as an unorthodox right-back, taking the place of Achraf Hakimi. The teenager’s versatility and engine have convinced Enrique before in hybrid roles; now he looks set to be trusted from the outset in a defensive berth.
Midfield tweak and a bold call in attack
The changes do not stop at the back. In midfield, Lucas Beraldo is expected to come into the starting lineup in place of Vitinha. It’s a move that hints at a slightly different profile in the centre of the pitch, with Beraldo offering more defensive security and structure as PSG look to avoid another open contest.
Higher up the field, one of the stars of the opening weekend is rewarded. With Ousmane Dembélé set to be rested, Ferran Torres is in line for his full debut after coming off the bench to score twice and rescue a point against Rennes. From impact substitute to starter in a week — Enrique is clearly riding the Spaniard’s momentum.
Torres should join Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in a fluid front three, giving PSG a mix of dribbling, creativity and penalty-box movement as they chase that first league victory.
The likely PSG XI vs Lille
Matvei Safonov – Warren Zaïre-Emery, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Lucas Digne – Lucas Beraldo, João Neves, Fabián Ruiz – Désiré Doué, Ferran Torres, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
New faces, new roles, and early-season pressure: Enrique is not waiting for this campaign to settle. He is forcing the issue. Now it is up to this reshaped XI to do the same in Lille.
