Oliver Antman Leaves Rangers for Anderlecht: A New Chapter

Oliver Antman’s Rangers chapter is already closing, and it has lasted barely long enough to leave a mark.

The Finnish winger is on the brink of joining RSC Anderlecht, with Rangers manager Derek McInnes confirming on Wednesday that the 24-year-old has travelled to Belgium to put the final touches on the move.

“An agreement has been reached, and Oliver has travelled to finalise everything. I am quite sure that everything will go well for him,” McInnes told the Scottish media, drawing a firm line under a short, stuttering spell in Glasgow.

From breakout star to restless talent

Antman arrived at Ibrox with genuine momentum behind him. His 2024–25 season with Go Ahead Eagles had turned heads across Europe: six league goals, a division-leading 16 assists, and four appearances in a triumphant KNVB Cup run. In Deventer, he was the creative spark, the player who threaded passes through tight gaps and tilted games in his team’s favour.

That form earned him a £3.5 million move to Rangers and the expectation that he would light up Scottish football in similar fashion. This was supposed to be the next step, the bigger stage, the louder crowd.

It never quite clicked.

Antman struggled to settle in Glasgow, on and off the pitch. The numbers tell the story bluntly: one goal and five assists across 28 appearances in all competitions. Flashes of his vision were there, but the rhythm that defined his time in the Eredivisie never truly appeared in a Rangers shirt.

A reset in Brussels

Now, the winger is set for a fresh start. Anderlecht are reportedly paying just over five million euros for the Finnish international, a fee that offers Rangers a modest profit and gives the player a clean slate at one of Belgium’s biggest clubs.

For Antman, Belgium may feel less like a step sideways and more like a release valve. Away from the glare and impatience of Glasgow, he joins a league that often rewards technical, creative wide players and offers a platform for resurgence.

Rangers, meanwhile, move on quickly, banking the fee and freeing up space in a squad that McInnes is still shaping in his own image. Anderlecht get a 24-year-old with proven end product in the Netherlands and a point to prove after a bruising year in Scotland.

Antman’s time at Ibrox will not be remembered for what he did. The real question is whether Brussels becomes the place where he shows what he always promised to be.
