Nordin Jackers Faces Winter Exit from Club Brugge

Nordin Jackers is staring at a winter exit.

Once pencilled in as the natural No. 2 behind new signing Yann Sommer at Club Brugge, the 29-year-old has now slipped to third in the pecking order. HLN report that head coach Ivan Leko has promoted highly rated youngster Argus Vanden Driessche to Sommer’s understudy, a decision that changes everything for Jackers.

It is a brutal twist. When Sommer arrived from Inter, Jackers knew he would be watching more than playing, but there was at least a clear role: first reserve, ready to step in. That safety net has gone.

Sommer himself has not exactly eased the debate. The Swiss international produced some key saves at the weekend against Antwerp, yet he was also at fault for the goal Club Brugge conceded. Those mixed early performances have only sharpened the spotlight on the position behind him.

When Simon Mignolet was unavailable, Jackers stepped in and performed well, convincing parts of the Club Brugge support that he could even be a legitimate candidate to start this season. That debate is over now. The hierarchy has been reset, and he is on the outside looking in.

At this stage of his career, sitting in the stands is not an option if he wants to play regularly and stay relevant. January suddenly looks less like a window and more like an escape route.

Given his solid showings since joining from OH Leuven, interest should not be a problem. Clubs around the Belgian Pro League know what he can offer: reliability, experience, and the composure of a keeper who has already worn the shirt of one of the country’s biggest sides.
