Nicolas Gonzalez's Juventus Standoff: Atletico Madrid's Offer Dispute

Nicolas Gonzalez is back at Juventus after his World Cup break, but he has not returned to a clean slate.

The forward, fresh from a season on loan at Atletico Madrid, has already made one thing clear: he does not want to wear the black and white shirt again. That stance has created an awkward backdrop for his reunion with coach Luciano Spalletti, who had earmarked Gonzalez as a key piece in his new project.

Atletico push, Juventus hold firm

Atletico Madrid know exactly where the player stands. They had an option to buy him permanently for €32m after last season’s loan and initially agreed to trigger it. Once the campaign ended, though, the Spanish club tried to redraw the lines of the deal.

Instead of €32m, Atletico are now only willing to pay €20m.

Juventus are not impressed. The Italian side want at least €25m and have so far refused to bend to Atletico’s revised valuation. Talks have not produced a breakthrough, and the gap remains.

For now, Gonzalez is on the market. Juventus would happily listen to offers from other clubs, especially anyone prepared to hit their €25m mark.

The problem? No one has.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Atletico’s €20m proposal is still the highest offer on the table for the Argentina international in this window. No rival bidder has gone beyond that figure, leaving Juventus stuck between their valuation and the reality of the market.

A decision no one can dodge

That stalemate is forcing a bigger question in Turin. Is it worth keeping a player who has openly stated he does not want to stay?

Gonzalez’s preference has not changed: he wants Atletico Madrid. His stance could weigh heavily on Juventus’ final call in the coming weeks, especially if no club steps up with a bid closer to their asking price.

The Bianconeri may eventually have to choose between principle and pragmatism. Hold out for €25m and risk keeping an unhappy player, or accept Atletico’s €20m and draw a line under a saga that is already complicating Spalletti’s plans.

If Gonzalez maintains his refusal to commit to Juventus, the pressure on the club to cash in will only grow.
