Mohamed Salah Shines as Trabzonspor Defeats Galatasaray 4-0
Mohamed Salah ripped the script to shreds.
On a night when Galatasaray waited in vain for Victor Osimhen’s return to rescue them, it was another African star who owned the stage as Trabzonspor hammered the visitors 4-0 on Saturday.
Osimhen had trained away from the main group during the week, just enough to fuel optimism that he might make the squad and tilt the balance. He never made it back. Galatasaray never laid a glove.
Salah did.
He needed only four minutes to set the tone. Picking up the ball deep, the Egyptian surged forward on a stunning 80-metre run, brushing past challenges and racing clear before finishing the breakaway to open the scoring. Galatasaray were stunned; the stadium roared. The gap between the sides, both physical and mental, was suddenly obvious.
The pressure didn’t ease. Salah started to toy with them.
For Trabzonspor’s second, he slipped into creator mode. Drifting into space, he spotted Noah Saviolo peeling away at the far side of the box and picked him out with a precise pass across the penalty area. Saviolo met it first time, sweeping his finish back across goal to cap a flowing team move that carved Galatasaray open.
Galatasaray looked shaken, and Salah sensed it. Just before the interval, he struck again, his sixth league goal of the season pushing Trabzonspor into cruise control before the players had even reached the dressing rooms. Any faint hope that Osimhen’s absence might be overcome evaporated under the weight of Salah’s dominance.
The second half became damage limitation for the visitors, but the scoreboard still moved. With 10 minutes left, Salah completed his hat-trick, underlining a performance of ruthless efficiency and cold composure in front of goal.
Frustration finally boiled over on the Galatasaray bench. Manager Okan Buruk was sent off late on after a furious reaction on the touchline, the red card summing up a miserable evening for the Istanbul side.
Trabzonspor walked away with a statement win. Salah walked away with the match ball. Galatasaray walked away with questions – not just about Osimhen’s fitness, but about how quickly they can recover from a night like this.
