Mass Brawl During World Cup Final in Johor Bahru

Police moved quickly after a mass brawl broke out during a public screening of the match, with Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad confirming that officers were alerted at 5.40am. Within hours, between 10am and 11am, they had tracked down and arrested seven suspects around the Taman Setia Indah area.

They did not have to look far. A two-minute, 36-second video, shared widely on social media, captured the chaos: a flare-up among spectators that escalated into a full-blown fight, believed to have erupted as tensions rose during the World Cup final broadcast.

Checks on the group revealed that three of the suspects already had criminal records, Ab Rahaman said, as reported by Utusan Malaysia. That detail will not calm local concerns about security at large public screenings, where passion for football can so easily spill over into something darker.

The next step is legal, not emotional. The suspects are expected to be brought to the Johor Bahru magistrates’ court tomorrow, where police will apply for a remand order as they investigate the case under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which covers rioting with weapons.
