Manchester United Scouts Eye Kaua Elias After Stunning Hat-Trick

Manchester United’s summer rebuild is not finished yet, and the next piece of the puzzle may have just announced himself with a perfect hat-trick in Lviv.

Kaua Elias, the 20-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk forward, delivered the kind of audition clubs dream about on Monday, scoring with his left foot, right foot and head in a 5-1 demolition of Kudrivka. In the stands, representatives from some of Europe’s heaviest hitters watched closely. United were among them. So were Arsenal.

Shakhtar’s emerging No. 9 did not waste the moment.

A hat-trick that turned heads

Elias, signed from Fluminense in 2025, has been steadily building a reputation in Ukraine. Twelve goals and three assists in 39 appearances is a solid return for a young striker adapting to European football. This, though, felt like a step up — a statement performance in front of exactly the kind of audience he wants to impress.

Reports in England claim United and Arsenal both had scouts in attendance and that an official offer from Old Trafford is now expected. Shakhtar are understood to value the Brazilian at around £30 million, a figure that reflects both his current output and his perceived ceiling.

Inside United, the assessment has been bullish. Club staff have reportedly been told Elias has the “potential to develop into a top-level centre-forward” and, crucially, that his skill set fits the team’s blueprint: aggressive pressing, rapid transitions, a front line that works as hard without the ball as it does with it.

In other words, they see more than just goals. They see a system player.

Competition building across Europe

United, though, are not alone in that judgement.

Arsenal have been tracking Elias for several weeks, monitoring his progress as they weigh up their own attacking options. AC Milan and Porto are also in the frame, with Rossoneri executives said to be considering a move and the player’s camp already receiving what have been described as “concrete signals” from multiple clubs.

The message from Elias’ side is clear enough: he is open to a step into one of Europe’s elite leagues. The question now is who moves first, and how hard.

A gap in United’s forward line

The interest from Old Trafford is not happening in a vacuum. Michael Carrick’s senior squad currently contains just one recognised out-and-out striker in Benjamin Sesko. That is a thin foundation for a club with United’s ambitions and schedule.

Joshua Zirkzee is expected to depart, with Juventus pushing to bring the Dutchman to Serie A. If that deal goes through, it leaves Carrick even lighter in the most unforgiving area of the pitch. No manager at this level wants to go into a season one injury away from a crisis at centre-forward.

United have already moved decisively in midfield, adding Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to refresh the engine room. The spine, though, still needs reinforcing. Club plans for the remainder of the window include a third midfielder, a full-back and, increasingly urgently, a striker.

Elias ticks several boxes: age, resale value, tactical fit, and the kind of raw talent that can be moulded. What he does not offer is certainty, and that is where the decision becomes more delicate. Do United gamble on potential at £30m, or hold out for a more established name at a higher cost?

A window still in motion

There has already been movement at the other end of the pitch. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir left for Celta Vigo on Friday on an initial loan, with the La Liga club holding an option to make the deal permanent for £3.5m. It is another sign of a squad being reshaped piece by piece, contracts and roles re-evaluated against Carrick’s demands.

The next piece could be a young Brazilian in Shakhtar orange, currently lighting up Lviv and drawing scouts from all corners of Europe.

United’s recruitment team has seen the hat-trick. They have heard the internal verdict. The market is forming around Elias, and the queue is getting longer.

Now comes the real test: are they prepared to step to the front and pay the price for a striker they believe can grow into the one thing every major club craves — a genuine, top-level No. 9?
