Manchester United have identified Lewis Hall as a prime solution for their evolving back line – but Newcastle United are in no mood to cooperate.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has underlined United’s admiration for the 19-year-old, revealing that Hall is not just a name on a longlist but a player “internally approved” at Old Trafford and viewed as an ideal fit for the squad. After that level of turnover, Newcastle’s message on Hall is straightforward: enough. They see him as part of the core they want to keep, not another asset to cash in on.

United, though, are not ignoring the situation. Romano confirmed that the Old Trafford hierarchy are “having some contacts to understand the situation” around Hall. They consider him a top target, but they also know there is a line they cannot cross until Newcastle’s stance softens. This is not a case of simply turning up with a cheque and walking away with the player.
