Manchester City Nears Ayyoub Bouaddi Transfer Amid Rodri's Barcelona Move

Manchester City are closing in on Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi in a move that could trigger one of the summer’s most dramatic midfield reshuffles, with Rodri edging towards a high-profile switch to Barcelona.

City have agreed personal terms with the 18-year-old, and while negotiations with Lille are still live, the French club are holding firm on a €100m (£85m) valuation. It is a colossal figure for a teenager, but City’s intent under Enzo Maresca is clear: refresh the core of the side now, even if it means paying tomorrow’s prices today.

Maresca wants the Morocco international in his first-team squad straight away. No gentle bedding-in, no quiet loan elsewhere. If the deal lands in time, Bouaddi will walk into a dressing room preparing for Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday and a Premier League opener against Bournemouth on 23 August. City’s midfield, stripped of Bernardo Silva’s experience, is being rebuilt at speed and at cost.

Bouaddi would line up alongside Elliot Anderson, the £116m signing from Nottingham Forest who arrived last month, as the most striking faces of that rebuild. Two expensive, ambitious bets in the centre of the pitch, both tasked with softening the blow of losing one of the club’s most influential figures of the past decade.

City, for their part, are “all but resigned” to losing Rodri. That phrase carries weight. It speaks of a club that has moved from resistance to planning, from clinging on to plotting the future. Bouaddi is at the heart of that plan, a teenager expected to grow into a role that has defined City’s modern era.

United are hopeful of winning that race, with Page understood to favour a move to Old Trafford. United’s preparations have also been lifted by the arrival of Marcus Rashford at their County Kildare training camp, the England forward linking up with the group after his post-World Cup break. His presence matters. So does his situation.

Rashford, now 28, has spent the last season and a half on loan at Barcelona and Aston Villa, his United career derailed by a breakdown in his relationship with a senior club executive and former head coach Ruben Amorim. That fracture pushed him to the fringes, physically away from Old Trafford and emotionally distant from the club where he made his name.

Those tensions have eased. Rashford is now focused on working under Michael Carrick, who has made it clear he wants the forward fully engaged and fully fit. The reset is underway, even if the future is not guaranteed. A departure before the window closes remains a live possibility.
