Liverpool Closing in on Bradley Barcola Transfer

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola is finally moving towards a conclusion, with Paris Saint-Germain and the Premier League club closing in on an agreement for the winger’s transfer, according to reports in France.

Loïc Tanzi of L’Équipe reports that the France international is “expected to become the biggest transfer of a Ligue 1 player to a foreign club”, underlining the scale of the deal Liverpool are trying to pull off.

The 23-year-old left-sided forward is one of at least two attacking signings the Merseyside club are targeting this window, with the recruitment team still open to adding a third offensive option on top of that. The plan is clear: flood Andoni Iraola’s frontline with quality and variety.

PSG’s price drops – but not by much

The saga has dragged on for weeks, but the numbers are finally starting to narrow.

PSG, according to Tanzi, remain adamant over their latest demands: a €140m (£119.7m) fee for Barcola. The journalist noted on X that “Ces dernières heures, Paris restait ferme sur ses dernières demandes : 140 M€. Encore une semaine,” underlining that the French champions are prepared to stand their ground with just a week left in the window.

That figure still represents a sizeable outlay, yet it marks a notable fall from the earlier stages of negotiations, when Barcola’s valuation was understood to be closer to €170m (£145.3m). The climbdown doesn’t make him cheap. It just makes him possible.

PSG’s stance now roughly aligns Barcola with the benchmark set by other major Premier League moves this summer, notably Manchester City’s deal for Elliot Anderson at £116m and Chelsea’s £117m move for Morgan Rogers. Liverpool are being asked to shop in the same aisle.

Inside the Barcola camp, there is growing belief that a deal will be struck with Liverpool. The player and his entourage are increasingly confident that he will be turning out for Iraola’s side, with the Reds pushing to get the move over the line before the deadline.

A long chase, a short window

For Liverpool, the clock is brutal.

There are seven days left to land Barcola, wrap up at least one more forward, and, if everything breaks their way, squeeze in a third attacking signing. On top of that, talks over Yankuba Minteh are advancing, with Liverpool’s third bid reported to be edging towards an agreement.

The pressure on new sporting director Richard Hughes and his recruitment team is obvious. Barcola would give Iraola a high-end left-sided option. Minteh, if secured, adds another dynamic wide threat. The expectation is that a third attacking arrival would be a centre-forward, giving Liverpool the depth and flexibility to rotate across a long, demanding season.

That would leave Iraola with a front line that looks stacked on paper. The rest of the squad? Less so.

Gaps that won’t go away

Even with Barcola in red, Liverpool still look light in two key areas: central midfield and right-back.

Iraola is understood to be convinced he can patch up the midfield with the options already at his disposal, trusting structure, intensity and coaching to close what many see as a glaring gap. It’s a bold call in a league that punishes any weakness between the lines.

Right-back is even more precarious. Jeremie Frimpong stands as the only senior specialist in the role, leaving Liverpool one injury or suspension away from a serious problem in a position that underpins Iraola’s aggressive, high-tempo approach.

So the picture is clear. Liverpool are pushing for a record-breaking move for Bradley Barcola, closing on Yankuba Minteh, and hunting a centre-forward, all while knowingly stepping into the new season short in two crucial zones.

They might yet land the statement winger they’ve chased all summer. The question is whether that firepower will be enough to mask what they haven’t fixed by the time the first half of 2026/27 is over.
