According to the Associated Press, Messi pointed at Garber multiple times during their postgame interaction. He gestured toward the commissioner, walked away, then later returned and pointed again as the two continued speaking. The nature of the conversation wasn’t clear, and both Inter Miami and MLS declined to comment on the incident.

What was clear: on the pitch, Messi had been ruthless.

Messi hits 100 for Inter Miami

The Argentine delivered another marquee performance, reaching yet another milestone in his glittering career. Messi opened the scoring in the first half, netting his 100th career goal for Inter Miami to put his side in front.

He didn’t stop there. In the second half, with Cruz Azul still within touching distance, Messi dropped into space, picked his pass and swung in a precise cross to Casemiro. The midfielder met it with a firm header, doubling the lead and giving Miami the cushion it needed to see out the final.

By the end, the scoreboard, the silverware and the storylines all belonged to Miami’s No. 10.

A growing trophy haul in Miami

The Campeones Cup now joins an increasingly crowded cabinet in South Florida.

Since Messi’s arrival, Inter Miami has stacked up major honors: the Leagues Cup in 2023, the Supporters’ Shield in 2024 and the MLS Cup in 2025. The Campeones Cup adds another piece of hardware to a run that has reshaped the club’s identity and expectations.

This isn’t a one-off surge. It looks and feels like a sustained era.

The season still has more to offer. Inter Miami sits second in the Eastern Conference on 45 points, nine behind Nashville SC in the race for the No. 1 seed.

A clash between those two in the Eastern Conference Final would surprise no one. The matchup already feels like it’s looming over the playoff picture, a potential collision between the conference’s current standard-bearers for a place in the MLS Cup.
