Leeds United Appeal for Disputed Goal Credit

Leeds United have launched an appeal to reclaim a disputed goal from their 4-1 win over Newcastle United on Monday night, arguing that Dominic Calvert-Lewin – not Jayden Bogle – should be credited with their second strike.

The incident came in the 34th minute. James Justin whipped in a cross from the right, Calvert-Lewin attacked it and wheeled away believing he had headed Leeds into a 2-0 lead. On the stadium screens and in the moment, it looked like his goal.

Then came the twist.

After review, the effort was officially given to Jayden Bogle, with the defender judged to have had the final touch. Calvert-Lewin, who later did get on the scoresheet with Leeds’ third in first-half stoppage time, was visibly stunned when the referee later told him the goal had been reassigned to his team-mate.

The Premier League match centre later confirmed on X that the “goal accreditation panel adjudged Leeds' 34th minute goal as a Bogle goal”, underlining the decision that had left the striker short of what he thought was a first-half brace.

Leeds have now formally challenged that ruling. A second, separate panel will be convened to re-examine the footage and decide once and for all who gets credit for the goal.

The scoreline will not change. The record books, though, might – and for a forward chasing numbers, that matters.
