Karim Adeyemi's Delayed Presentation at FC Barcelona
Karim Adeyemi will have to wait for his Camp Nou moment.
The former Borussia Dortmund winger, who completed his move to FC Barcelona last week, has not yet been unveiled on the pitch in front of the supporters – a ritual that has become part of the club’s identity as much as the colours and the crest.
This time, timing got in the way.
World Cup final takes centre stage
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barça pressed pause on the presentation because of the World Cup final, where Spain edged Argentina 1-0 after extra time yesterday.
Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco travelled to the showpiece and are not expected back in Barcelona until Tuesday. With the club’s two main powerbrokers away, the decision was taken to delay Adeyemi’s official introduction.
The plan now is clear: Adeyemi will be presented to the media and the fans on Wednesday, 22 July, at the Catalan club’s stadium.
Flick’s plans pushed back
Internally, Barcelona had hoped to wrap up the deal before the weekend so the 24-year-old could immediately slot into training under new coach Hansi Flick. That schedule has slipped, if only slightly.
Instead of walking straight from the signing room to the training pitch, Adeyemi’s first real taste of Barça life will come under the spotlight, in front of cameras and supporters, with the club hierarchy back from the World Cup and ready to usher in one of the first major signings of their new era.
