Juventus Goalkeeping Reset: Di Gregorio and Perin Depart

So much for stability. Juventus thought they had calmed the waters by bringing in Guglielmo Vicario on a season-long loan. Instead, the goalkeeping department is being ripped up and rewritten before August is out.

The club now looks set to enter the market for a second goalkeeper, with both of last season’s top options moving toward the door at Continassa. Michele Di Gregorio, the starter for most of last year, has accepted the reality of Vicario’s arrival and agreed his own season-long loan to the Premier League with Bournemouth.

Deal details: An option to buy is included, valued at around €14–15 million according to multiple reports.

If things go well in England, Juventus may have seen the last of him.

Behind him, the safety net of the past two seasons is also about to disappear. Mattia Perin, the long-serving backup who has often spoken with his choices about valuing Juventus over a guaranteed starting role elsewhere, is now expected to leave as well. A permanent move to Serie B side Palermo is on the table, with the clubs still ironing out the final transfer fee.

Strip it all back and, for now, Juventus are down to Vicario and third-choice veteran Carlo Pinsoglio — the dressing-room leader, unofficial team dad, and suddenly a very important name on the team sheet for Sunday’s Serie A opener away to Frosinone.

Di Gregorio’s departure is easy enough to frame. His “adventurous” campaign, littered with errors and soft goals at the near post, always made him vulnerable once Juventus found an alternative. But Perin to Serie B is a different kind of jolt. Palermo’s offer is reportedly strong, and regular football is on the table, yet this is a goalkeeper who has repeatedly seemed content with 10–15 high-level games a season in Turin rather than chasing a full-time No. 1 role at a smaller club.

Maybe the equation has changed. Maybe the club has, too.

After a sixth-place finish scarred by high-profile goalkeeping mistakes, this feels less like a tweak and more like a purge. Outside of Pinsoglio, Juventus look ready to draw a hard line under last season’s errors and rebuild the position from scratch.
