Jim Goodwin Returns to Dundee United Dugout After Medical Absence

Jim Goodwin will return to the Dundee United dugout this weekend after a three-week medical absence that briefly halted his season.

The 44-year-old manager was taken to hospital at the end of August with an undisclosed condition and only returned home on 1 September. He has been away from day-to-day duties since, forced to watch from a distance as his side navigated the opening stretch of the Scottish Premiership campaign.

That distance closes on Friday. Goodwin is scheduled to handle pre-match media duties ahead of Saturday’s league meeting with St Mirren at Tannadice, a clear signal that he is ready to step back into full control.

He did manage to see his team in person earlier this month, watching from the stands as United drew with Falkirk, while assistant Lee Sharp took charge on the touchline. Sharp has steadied the ship in Goodwin’s absence, overseeing one win, one draw and one defeat in three Premiership outings.

Now the team’s record, and the responsibility, move back to the man in the suit on the sideline. With St Mirren coming to Tannadice and the season still settling into shape, Goodwin’s return arrives at a pivotal moment for United’s campaign.
