Jeremy Monga Chooses Arsenal Over Chelsea and Manchester United
Jeremy Monga has made his choice.
The highly rated Leicester City winger is understood to favour a move to Arsenal over rival interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, setting up one of the summer’s most intriguing youth transfers.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have moved to the front of the queue and are now pushing ahead with a deal for the 16-year-old, after the player signalled he would agree to a switch to the Premier League champions. For a teenager yet to celebrate his 17th birthday, it is a decisive step.
Chelsea and United had both tracked Monga during this window, sensing an opportunity as Leicester brace for a difficult summer. Relegation from the Championship has left the Foxes vulnerable, and the threat of losing one of their brightest prospects only underlines the scale of the rebuild ahead.
Leicester do at least have some leverage. Monga has already agreed a professional contract with the club, due to begin when he turns 17 on July 10. That agreement gives Leicester the right to command a transfer fee rather than lose him for a minimal sum, and any buying club will have to pay for potential rather than polish.
Still, when a 16-year-old chooses Arsenal over two of England’s other giants, it speaks to the pull of a champion dressing room and a project built around youth. If the deal is completed, the real story starts on the day he walks through the doors in north London and tries to turn promise into Premier League minutes.
