Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Seizures
Jamal Musiala has revealed he is dealing with “treatable absence seizures” after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days, but the Bayern Munich star insists there is no long-term threat to his health.
The 23-year-old went down just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute in Bayern’s friendly against FC Heidenheim on Tuesday night, a worrying repeat of a similar incident in Saturday’s game against RB Leipzig. On both occasions he suddenly fell to the turf, prompting immediate concern from team-mates and medical staff.
This time, Musiala chose to address the situation head-on.
In a detailed Instagram post, the Germany international moved quickly to calm fears and explain the diagnosis that has emerged from recent medical checks.
“First things first, I am doing well. I am incredibly grateful for your messages and your support!”
he wrote, before outlining the condition that has been identified. “I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary – but treatable – absence seizures resulting from a neurological dysfunction.”
Those seizures, he explained, can trigger the kind of collapses seen against Leipzig and Heidenheim. They look dramatic. They are frightening to watch. For Musiala, though, they have become something he is learning to live with.
“I know they might look alarming at first glance, but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life,”
he continued. “I am receiving excellent medical care and remain very optimistic. FC Bayern and my personal support network are right by my side, helping me through this.”
The key line for supporters and club alike came next: “Importantly, there is no further health risk involved.”
Musiala stressed that, after extensive consultation with specialists, he has been cleared to continue his career and has chosen to do exactly that.
“In close consultation and regular contact with the experts, it was my personal wish to face this challenge; with the medical clearance of the neurologists, I want to continue doing what helps my recovery most: simply living my life and pursuing my passion for playing football,”
he said. “I have taken full responsibility for this decision. Overall, I feel very positive and am on the right track.”
For a player whose game is built on freedom, flair and fearlessness on the ball, the message was unmistakable: he does not intend to let this define him.
“What helps me most on this journey is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team and with your amazing support,”
Musiala added, tying his recovery to the rhythm of competition and the demands of elite football.
He also drew a line around how much more he wants to share. After opening up about his condition, Musiala asked for space and privacy as he navigates the next steps.
“I hope this helps you understand the situation better,”
he wrote. “At the same time, I ask for your understanding regarding my wish to keep this matter private, sharing it only with my closest circle, the club, and the medical experts.”
Bayern now know the cause of the incidents that briefly stunned their pre-season. Musiala knows his path. The next question is a football one: how quickly can one of Europe’s brightest talents turn this scare into just another obstacle he has already beaten?
