Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Collapsing During Pre-Season

Jamal Musiala has revealed he is dealing with a neurological issue after collapsing twice in a week during Bayern Munich’s pre-season, but insists he is feeling well and faces no ongoing health risk.

The 23-year-old Germany international went down again on Wednesday (AEST), shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute in a friendly at Heidenheim. As he lay on the turf, players from both sides quickly formed a protective circle while medical staff rushed on. Musiala was eventually helped to his feet and walked off the pitch.

It was the second such scare in a matter of days. On Sunday (AEST), he had also collapsed during a friendly against Leipzig, leaving the field under his own steam but clearly dazed, according to German agency DPA.

This time, Musiala chose to address the situation directly.

On Instagram after Wednesday’s game, the Bayern midfielder explained he has been diagnosed with temporary “but easily treatable absence seizures” linked to a neurological problem.

“These can lead to the moments that happened recently, such as against Leipzig or even now in Heidenheim,” he wrote, stressing that specialists had assured him there was “no additional health risk”.

Bayern’s official report on the Heidenheim match downplayed the drama, noting only that “there was a setback when Jamal Musiala had to be subbed off with a knock minutes after coming on.”

Musiala’s own message carried a different weight, but also clear determination. He said he was “very optimistic” and praised the medical care he is receiving. With doctors closely involved, he explained that it was his wish to confront the issue while maintaining as normal a routine as possible.

“In close coordination and regular communication with experts,” he wrote, he wants to keep living his everyday life and stay close to his passion: playing football.

The timing is stark. Bayern, the reigning Bundesliga champion, faces Borussia Dortmund on Sunday AEST in the German Supercup, the traditional curtain-raiser to the German season.

Whether Musiala is passed fit to play remains uncertain. What is clear is that one of Bayern’s brightest talents is determined to keep the ball at his feet while he works through a challenge that goes far beyond pre-season form.
