Inter Milan Nears £30m Deal for Liverpool's Curtis Jones

Inter Milan are moving to the brink of a deal for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, with negotiations centring on a package worth about 35m euros (£30m).

Liverpool knocked back a verbal offer of 25m euros (£21.7m) from the Italian champions in June, holding firm to a valuation closer to £35m for the 25-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract. That stance has forced Inter to edge upwards. Now, a fee in the region of £30m is understood to be the figure that could finally unlock an agreement.

Sources in Italy believe a verbal understanding between the clubs is already in place. Both Liverpool and Inter, though, maintain that key details still need to be ironed out before anything can be signed off. The structure of the payments and potential add-ons remain part of the discussion.

Liverpool are prepared to cash in on Jones and are seeking a deal broadly in line with the £30m package Inter paid Tottenham for Djed Spence. That move has become something of a benchmark in these talks, with Liverpool reluctant to drop below that level for a homegrown player who has been part of the first-team picture for several seasons.

Inter’s interest is not new. The Serie A side pushed for Jones in January, tabling a loan proposal with an option to buy. Liverpool dismissed that idea, unwilling to lose him mid-season without a guaranteed sale on the table.

Jones has been a long-serving figure at Anfield since his breakthrough under Jurgen Klopp in 2019, amassing 228 appearances in all competitions. Last season he featured 49 times, but only 18 of those were Premier League starts as he struggled to nail down a permanent place in Arne Slot’s midfield.

A move to the Italian champions would mark a major shift in his career. For Liverpool, it would be a significant sale in a summer where every outgoing shapes the next phase of Slot’s rebuild.
