Inter’s Midfield Domino: Frattesi to Lazio Unlocks Curtis Jones Move

Inter have spent the summer with one name circled in red for their midfield: Curtis Jones. Everything else has been on hold. Sales, squad tweaks, secondary options — all waiting on the chance to pounce for the Liverpool midfielder at the right price.

That chance might arrive from Rome.

Frattesi on the move?

As reported by Fabrizio Romano (via SOSFanta), Inter and Lazio have opened talks over a deal for Davide Frattesi built around a loan with a conditional obligation to buy. It’s not a simple exit, but it’s a serious framework.

Frattesi’s priority is clear: he wants to play. He collected 33 appearances last season, yet started only a small fraction of those games. For a player in his prime years, cameos are no longer enough.

If Lazio manage to prise him away, the move would do more than reshape their midfield. It would immediately push Inter back toward Jones.

Inter ready to move for Jones

Inter have not hidden their admiration for Jones. The plan is straightforward: once a major midfield salary and slot are freed, they go hard. The club are prepared to invest up to €35 million for the Liverpool man.

Liverpool, though, are holding their ground. Despite Jones’ short-term contract situation, the Premier League side continue to demand a high fee. They know his value, they know his age profile, and they know he has suitors.

Jones, for his part, is open to the move. He has been carefully managed and effectively protected during pre-season, a decision that only fuels the sense that something could be brewing behind the scenes.

Lazio’s gamble and a familiar agent

Alfredo Pedullà reports that Frattesi has been formally offered to Lazio by his agent, Giuseppe Riso. Riso knows the Italian market inside out; he also represents Mario Gila, Andrea Pinamonti, and Lorenzo Lucca, names that have floated around various Serie A negotiations this summer.

Lazio had previously explored a partial swap with Napoli, only to watch Milan swoop in and close a deal for the defender involved. They then turned their attention to Franjo Ivanovic, but the Benfica player is heading to Lens instead.

So the capital club are back in the market, and Frattesi has moved to the top of their list.

A perfect fit with a twist

On the pitch, Lazio makes a lot of sense for Frattesi. It’s one of the few sides where he would walk in as a day-one starter, with the system and the minutes he craves.

There is a twist of irony, of course, given his Roma past. A former Giallorosso youth product potentially anchoring the Biancocelesti midfield would add a sharp narrative edge to every Derby della Capitale.

But Lazio’s problem is not identifying targets. It’s closing them. Their recent transfer windows have been defined by long negotiations, late stumbles, and missed opportunities. And Inter, fresh off a Scudetto, are not in the business of handing out discounts on key assets.

So the talks will be tense. Numbers will be argued over. Structures will be reworked.

If Lazio finally get one over the line and Frattesi goes, though, the knock-on effect is obvious: Inter’s path to Curtis Jones clears, and one of the summer’s most intriguing midfield chains could snap into place in a matter of days.
