Hibs vs Kilmarnock: Alarming Stats Ahead of Clash

Two clubs, one fixture, and a pile of numbers that tell a brutal story.

Kilmarnock arrive having shipped 14 goals in just five Scottish Premiership matches. That’s not just poor form, it’s historic territory. In this century, only three top-flight sides have conceded more at this stage of a season: Motherwell in 2005-06 with 15, Gretna in 2007-08 also with 15, and Dundee United’s chaotic 2022-23 start with 18. Kilmarnock are keeping uncomfortable company.

The damage isn’t only at the back. Up front, the goals have dried up completely. Kilmarnock have gone three league games without scoring, their longest barren spell in the Premiership since February 2021, when they endured five straight matches without finding the net. The pattern is familiar, and that’s the worrying part.

Yet this isn’t a simple tale of one struggling side walking into a fortress.

Easter Road has turned from asset to burden. Hibernian have lost five home league games on the bounce, their worst such run in the top flight since August 2010. One more defeat and they tumble into another unwelcome list: the last club to lose six consecutive Premiership home matches were Dundee, from February to May 2019. That’s the sort of sequence that lingers over a season.

So something has to give. Historically, it’s usually Kilmarnock.

Across their last 17 Premiership meetings with Hibernian, Kilmarnock have managed just one win, drawing six and losing ten. The lone bright spot came in November 2022, a 1-0 victory under Derek McInnes. Outside of that narrow success, this fixture has been relentlessly one-sided.

Hibs are desperate to stop the rot at Easter Road. Kilmarnock are desperate to stop leaking goals and start scoring them. The records on both sides can’t all survive the night.
