Hibernian Aims to Turn Home Form Around Against Kilmarnock

Hibernian’s home form is on the floor. David Gray isn’t.

Five straight Scottish Premiership defeats at Easter Road would rattle most head coaches. The stands feel it, the league table shows it, and the fixture list isn’t exactly offering sympathy. Yet Gray cuts a calm figure as Hibs prepare to host Kilmarnock on Tuesday night.

They have not won a home league game since April. The opponents that day? Kilmarnock. The scoreline? A resounding 3-0 to Hibs.

A lot has changed since that afternoon. The mood, certainly. The results, brutally so.

Since that win over the Ayrshire side, Hibs have lost at home in the Premiership to Hearts twice, Motherwell twice and Celtic. Five games, five defeats, and a narrative writing itself about a fragile team on their own patch.

Gray doesn’t buy it.

“There have been some really positive performances at home. It’s definitely in us,” he insisted, pointing away from the raw numbers and towards the detail of each display.

He knows the statistics. He just refuses to be ruled by them.

“You can find a stat to drive whatever narrative you’re looking for,” Gray said. “I look at them all in isolation, in games. The only stat, the only thing that matters, is that score in the top corner of the screen when it’s on the telly.”

That’s the problem, of course. The only stat that matters has been going against Hibs in Edinburgh for months.

Yet this week offers a reset of sorts. Kilmarnock on Tuesday, Aberdeen at Easter Road on Saturday. Two home games, back-to-back, before the international break draws a line under the opening phase of the campaign.

“Big chance here, two home games to get into this international break in a really strong position,” Gray said, sensing an opportunity rather than a threat.

For a club of Hibs’ size, poor home form doesn’t just bruise confidence; it chips away at identity. Easter Road is supposed to be a hostile place for visitors, not for the home support watching another lead slip or another chance go begging.

Gray is clear about what must change.

“For us to be successful, you need strong home form and we’ve got a chance, with back-to-back games, to try and put that right.”

Kilmarnock know exactly what Hibs can do to them here when it clicks. Hibs know it too. The question now is whether that April performance was a snapshot—or a standard they can rediscover when they need it most.
