Glentoran Triumphs Over Linfield in Irish Cup Thriller

Glentoran booked their place in the semi-finals of the Women's Irish Cup with a hard-fought 2-1 win over fierce rivals Linfield at the Blanchflower Stadium, sealed by a late flourish from Naomi McLaughlin.

The forward struck first in the 36th minute, breaking the deadlock in a tight, nervy contest and giving Kim Turner’s side a deserved lead. Linfield, though, refused to fold. Cora Chambers hit back for the Blues to level the tie and swing the momentum, setting up a tense final spell under the lights.

With extra time looming, McLaughlin stepped up again. Eight minutes from the end, she grabbed her second of the night, a decisive finish that dragged Glentoran over the line and into the final four.

Holders cruise through

Cliftonville, defending the trophy, moved through with far less drama. They eased past Derry City 3-0, looking every inch a side intent on keeping their hands on the cup.

An early own goal handed the Reds control, and they never really let it slip. Teegan Lynch added a second before the break, and after the restart Louise McDaniel struck to remove any lingering doubt. It was professional, ruthless, and exactly what champions are supposed to look like in knockout football.

Crusaders hold off champions-elect

At Seaview, Crusaders Strikers had to work far harder to see off Sion Swifts, who have already wrapped up the Championship title. The Premiership outfit emerged 2-1 winners, but only after a late scare.

Ali Nelson fired Crusaders in front, and when Rebecca Bassett doubled the advantage, the home side looked comfortable. Sion, though, found a way back. Substitute Caoimhe Heron pulled one back to set up a tense finish, yet Crusaders dug in and saw the game out to secure their semi-final spot.

Lisburn complete the line-up

Lisburn claimed the final place in the last four with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ballymena United, completing a semi-final line-up stacked with storylines, rivalries and defending champions who look in no mood to give up their crown.
