Galatasaray Renew Interest in Rafael Leao as Milan Lowers Demands

Galatasaray have circled back to Rafael Leao, reopening talks with Milan as the Italian club quietly lowers its demands for the Portuguese forward.

Sources in both Italy and Turkiye report that discussions between the clubs have intensified, even if no formal, written offer has yet landed on Milan’s desk. For now, it is all conversations, no signatures.

Milan had initially set a steep asking price: €50m plus €10m in add-ons. That figure scared off early suitors and left the Rossoneri waiting for someone willing to meet those terms. Nobody did. The lack of concrete bids has forced a rethink at San Siro, and the valuation is now understood to be dipping below the €50m mark, with performance-related bonuses on top.

That shift has changed the market.

Galatasaray, fresh from a failed move for Gabriel Martinelli, have moved quickly. Their €45m offer for the Arsenal winger was rejected, and the Premier League club made it clear the Brazilian had no interest in a move to Istanbul. With that door slammed shut, attention has swung firmly back to Leao.

Sportitalia and Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu both report that Galatasaray are now in “intensive” contact with Milan over the 27-year-old. The Turkish champions are not alone in having tested the waters: Benfica and Fenerbahce also sounded out Milan earlier in the window. None of those approaches progressed to a formal bid, as the distance between what Milan wanted and what the clubs were prepared to pay remained too wide.

The landscape is different now. A reduced price tag opens the door to renewed negotiations, and Galatasaray are trying to step through it before anyone else does.

Leao and Milan had been waiting for a different kind of phone call. The expectation around the player’s camp was that once his availability became known, clubs from Europe’s top five leagues would pounce. That rush never came. Interest flickered, but no heavyweight made a serious move.

Meanwhile, the clock is ticking on Milan’s side. Leao’s contract runs until June 2028, yet there is said to be no appetite from the player to extend his stay at San Siro. With renewal off the table and the market finally starting to move, a sale this summer is beginning to look less like an option and more like the only realistic outcome.

Galatasaray know it. Milan know it. The question now is who blinks first on the final price.
