Sources have confirmed the Chelsea midfielder is very keen on making the move to the Etihad this summer, and the Premier League champions are now weighing up whether to test Chelsea’s resolve with a £100million offer.

That figure sits around £20m below Chelsea’s current asking price, but people close to the talks believe a deal at £100m is realistic if City act quickly.

Enzo’s next step – and City’s dilemma

Fernandez, signed by Chelsea from Benfica for £107m in 2023, has grown into a central figure at Stamford Bridge and a mainstay for Argentina. Even so, he is understood to see a switch to Enzo Maresca’s City side as the ideal next step in his career.

City have been tracking his situation and are exploring whether they can strike an agreement at the revised valuation. The interest is genuine, but there is a major caveat: a move for Fernandez is expected to happen only if Rodri leaves.

Barcelona remain in talks to lure the Spanish midfielder to Camp Nou, and that potential exit hangs over City’s midfield planning.
