Eli Junior Kroupi Shortlisted for Men's Young Talent of the Year

Eli Junior Kroupi’s rise has been rapid. The wait for his return might feel even longer now.

The Bournemouth forward has been shortlisted for the Men's Young Talent of the Year award ahead of the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony, a landmark recognition for a player who only made his Cherries debut in August 2025.

At 20, Kroupi stands among the brightest of his generation. He is one of three Premier League names in a 10-man shortlist, joined by Manchester City's Ayyoub Bouaddi and Aston Villa's Johan Manzambi, underlining the league’s grip on emerging talent.

The numbers behind his nomination are hard to ignore. Last season, his first in English football, Kroupi played 35 times in all competitions and scored 13 goals for Bournemouth. He did more than just settle. He exploded.

By the end of the 2025-26 campaign, no teenager had scored more goals in their debut Premier League season. In a side fighting to establish itself, he became a cutting edge, a reference point, a reason for defenders to look over their shoulders.

Now he can only watch.

A foot injury in pre-season stopped his momentum cold. Surgery followed, ruling him out of the opening weeks of the new campaign. Bournemouth have had to redraw their attacking plans without the young forward who changed their tempo last year.

The expectation is that he will return in October or November, just as the season starts to harden and the schedule bites. By then, the awards talk will be swirling again.

The Men's Young Talent of the Year trophy will be one of the honours handed out at the 70th Ballon d'Or ceremony in London on Monday, 26 October. Whether Kroupi walks onto that stage or not, his name is already in the conversation.

The next question is simple: how high can he push the ceiling once he’s back on the pitch?
