Dominik Szoboszlai Signs New Liverpool Contract Until 2031

Dominik Szoboszlai has tied his future to Liverpool, signing a new five-year contract that runs to 2031 and plants him firmly at the heart of the club’s next era.

The Hungary captain, who arrived from RB Leipzig for £60m in 2023, was Liverpool’s standout performer last season. Thirteen goals, twelve assists, and a relentless presence between the lines turned him from big-money signing into genuine talisman in a single campaign.

He has no intention of slowing down.

"There's always more to come. I'm never happy," Szoboszlai said, laying out the mentality that has endeared him to the Anfield crowd. "I want to set the example. I want to be an example also for everyone, as much as I can."

This is not a player content with one good season. It’s a statement of ambition, from both club and midfielder, that the best version of Szoboszlai is still to come.

A Deal That Ends the Doubt

The 25-year-old still had two years left on his original contract, but months of negotiations between his camp and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes had fuelled speculation over his long-term future.

Those whispers are over.

Talks accelerated in recent weeks, the key details were thrashed out, and the deal was signed this week. The agreement stretches to 2031, a clear sign that Liverpool see him as a pillar of the side for the rest of his peak years – and that he sees Anfield as the stage on which he wants to chase the biggest prizes.

When he first walked through the doors at Melwood, Szoboszlai did not bother hiding his ambition.

"When I signed, I said I want to win everything. That didn't change for a little moment either. It stayed the same," he said. "I want to win everything that is possible in this country, also let's say the Champions League. I'm ready to go for it."

The target is not top four. It’s everything.

From Star Performer to Dressing-Room Leader?

His impact has not gone unnoticed in the dressing room. In February, Mohamed Salah – who has since left Liverpool – described Szoboszlai as "one of the best players in the world". Praise of that weight, from a player of Salah’s stature, rarely comes cheaply.

Now the conversation around Szoboszlai is not just about what he does with the ball, but what he represents without it.

With Andy Robertson departing Anfield this summer, Liverpool must appoint a new vice-captain. Szoboszlai, already captain of his national team, will be a strong contender. His contract situation is resolved, his status in the squad is rising, and his personality fits the role of standard-bearer for a new-look Liverpool.

The club believes his ceiling is still climbing. So does he.

The numbers from last season suggest a player already operating at an elite level. The new deal suggests Liverpool expect that to be only the beginning.
