Curtis Jones Leaves Liverpool for Inter Milan

Curtis Jones has drawn the curtain on a 16-year Liverpool story, sealing a move to Inter Milan in a deal worth around £30 million and bringing to an end a journey that began when he was a boy in the club’s academy.

The 25-year-old leaves Anfield with more than 200 senior appearances, 22 goals and six major trophies to his name, including two Premier League titles – a haul that underlines how firmly he wrote himself into the club’s modern history.

From academy hopeful to title winner

Jones walked through the doors of Liverpool’s academy as a local kid with a simple ambition: play for the first team. He did far more than that.

He broke into the senior side, scored in front of the Kop, and lifted silverware in a period when Liverpool chased – and often caught – the biggest prizes. Across league, Europe and domestic cups, he became a trusted squad figure, growing from promising youngster into established professional.

By the time he left, he was no longer just the academy prospect with flair. He was a title winner, a father, and one of the club’s longest-serving players.

“I came here as a kid… I’m leaving as a man”

Jones chose his own social media channels to say goodbye, posting a message that laid bare what the club has meant to him and his family.

“After 16 years, it’s time to say goodbye,” he wrote. “I came here as a kid with a dream of playing for Liverpool, and I’ve been lucky enough to actually live that dream.

“This club is all I’ve ever known. I came here as a kid and I’m leaving as a man with a family of my own, which probably puts into perspective just how much of my life I’ve spent here.

“So much has happened during my time here, both on and off the pitch. I’ve made my debut, won trophies, made memories I’ll never forget, and I’ve become a dad.”

That last point clearly hit hardest for him. “Having my daughter while I’ve been here makes it even more special because Liverpool isn’t just part of my story anymore, it’s part of my family’s story too.”

Gratitude on the way out

Jones used his farewell to shine the spotlight on others. He namechecked the academy staff who first nurtured him, the coaches who trusted him, and the people behind the scenes at Anfield whose work rarely makes headlines but underpins everything.

Then he turned to the dressing room.

“To all the lads I’ve shared a dressing room with over the years, thank you. I’ve played with some unbelievable players and made friendships I know I’ll have for life,” he said.

The supporters, though, received the most pointed tribute.

“Thank you to the fans that stuck by me and always supported me. I will always be one of you.”

A new chapter in Milan

Now comes the leap. Inter Milan awaits, and with it a fresh league, a new language, a different pressure. Jones framed it as exactly that: a challenge he wants.

“Now it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter for me and my family, and I’m excited for what’s ahead,” he wrote.

He didn’t pretend the break was clean. It rarely is when a player grows up at a club.

“But Liverpool will always be a massive part of me. I came here as a kid with a dream and I’m leaving having lived it.

“So genuinely, to everyone who has played any part in my 16 years here, thank you. I’ll never forget it.

“YNWA.”
