Colchester United Sign Southampton's Moses Sesay on Loan

Colchester United have dipped into the Premier League talent pool, bringing in Southampton midfielder Moses Sesay on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old, highly regarded within the Saints setup, only joined their academy from Chelsea last year but has already pushed himself onto the international radar with appearances for England at Under-18 level. His senior club experience remains limited – just a single substitute outing in last season’s EFL Cup – yet Colchester clearly see a player ready to be fast-tracked.

“Moses is a very gifted player with the ball. He can really speed up the game,” the U’s boss told BBC Essex, underlining exactly why Colchester have moved for him now rather than waiting for him to break through at St Mary’s.

Cowley also struck a realistic note. This is Sesay’s first loan, his first real taste of the weekly grind and physical edge of senior league football. The adjustment will take time, and Colchester know it.

“He’s been involved with England. It’s his first loan, so he’s going to need time to adapt, but he’s got some really good attributes. We’re looking forward to working with him,” Cowley added.
