Chelsea Sell Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig for £25m

Chelsea have agreed to sell striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, clearing the way for the Spaniard to swap west London for the Bundesliga.

The 20-year-old is expected to join Leipzig on a permanent deal, though sources in Germany insist the final details are not yet complete. The fee remains under wraps, but Guiu has been valued at around £25m — a sharp rise on the £5m Chelsea paid Barcelona to bring him in from his boyhood club in 2024.

For Chelsea, this is a swift turnaround. Guiu arrived as a long-term project, a powerful young forward with a reputation from La Masia and Spain’s Under-21s. A year later, he is heading out the door having never fully settled into life at Stamford Bridge.

His time in England has been fragmented. Guiu made 29 appearances for Chelsea, scoring eight goals, six of them in the club’s triumphant 2024-25 Conference League campaign. On European nights he briefly looked like a breakout star, a penalty-box striker with sharp movement and a ruthless streak.

Domestic opportunities were harder to come by. A short loan spell at Sunderland last season yielded just three matches, offering little chance to build rhythm or confidence. By the time this summer rolled around, the writing was on the wall.

Guiu has been training away from the main first-team group in pre-season, a clear signal that Chelsea were preparing for life without him and that his camp were working on an exit. Leipzig, with their track record of polishing young attacking talent, have moved to take advantage.

Chelsea’s squad reshaping did not stop there. Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful loan at River Plate, the club opting to cut short his stay in Argentina to free up an overseas loan slot. The plan is for the highly rated youngster to head back out again, this time with a move — potentially within England — on the table.
