Chelsea Finalizes Sale of Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig

Chelsea have approved the permanent sale of striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, drawing a quick line under a Stamford Bridge stay that never really caught fire.

The 20-year-old is expected to make the move to Germany, though voices close to Leipzig are stressing that the deal still needs final touches before it can be signed off. The fee remains largely under wraps, but Guiu has been valued at around £25m – a sharp jump from the roughly £5m Chelsea paid Barcelona for him in 2024.

It brings an early end to a spell that always felt like a project rather than a finished article. The Spain Under-21 forward arrived from his boyhood club with clear potential and a reputation from La Masia, yet he never fully forced his way into the long-term picture in west London.

Guiu made 29 appearances for Chelsea and scored eight goals, six of them coming in the club’s Conference League-winning run in 2024-25. On European nights he often looked at home, a penalty-box striker with instinct and timing, even if that form never truly translated into a sustained role in the Premier League.

A short loan at Sunderland last season did little to change the narrative. He played just three times for the Championship side, struggled to build rhythm and returned to Chelsea with his future no clearer than when he left.

The writing has been on the wall this summer. Guiu has been training away from the main first-team group, a clear signal from the club that they were preparing for life without him while working on an exit strategy that would still protect his resale value.

Leipzig, long known for targeting young talent with upside, now stand ready to take that gamble. For Chelsea, it is another example of the new regime’s willingness to turn a quick profit on emerging players if the market allows.

There has been movement elsewhere in the squad planning. Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful loan at River Plate, with Chelsea keen to free up an overseas loan slot. The Ecuadorian teenager is expected to head back out again, this time likely to a different environment and potentially to a club in England.
