Brown Bears Secure 1-0 Victory Over Saint Peter's

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — For 85 minutes, Brown pushed, prodded, and piled on shots without reward. In the 86th, Lorenzo Amaral finally broke the deadlock.

His late strike delivered a 1-0 win over Saint Peter’s on Saturday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field, lifting the Bears to 2-1 on the season and a perfect 2-0 at home.

The goal, Amaral’s second of the year, came at the end of a night in which he was relentless. He finished with a game-high six shots, the centerpiece of a Brown attack that outshot the Peacocks 12-7.

The winner was crafted with help. Carlo Brown and Alex Sauerbrei combined to set up Amaral, whose finish at last gave Brown the breakthrough its pressure had promised.

Before that moment, it had been a tense, goalless grind.

Brown on the front foot

From the opening whistle, Brown dictated the tempo. The Bears outshot Saint Peter’s 6-3 in the first half, with Amaral alone accounting for five of those efforts. He found pockets of space, turned, and fired, but the final touch kept eluding him.

Saint Peter’s bent but did not break, reaching halftime level despite the shot disparity.

After the interval, the pattern held. Brown continued to press, and the chances grew sharper.

Midway through the second half, the Bears cranked up the pressure. Mateo Pereyra unleashed a shot that forced Saint Peter’s goalkeeper Sebastian Heredia-Randen into a save, earning Brown a corner. From that set piece, the ball fell to James Snaith at the top of the 18-yard box. His driven effort looked destined for the net before Heredia-Randen again intervened.

The Peacocks’ keeper kept his side alive, but the waves of Brown attacks kept coming. The clock ticked toward full time. The tension climbed.

Then Amaral struck, and the night belonged to Brown.

A debut clean sheet and what’s next

Behind that attacking push, Brown also found stability in goal. Making his first-ever start for the Bears, Graham Kois faced two shots on target and turned both aside to secure the clean sheet.

It was a composed debut, and with Amaral providing the late drama at the other end, Brown’s home form stayed spotless.

Next up, the Bears return to Stevenson-Pincince Field on Friday, Sept. 11, when they host Stonehill under the lights at 7 p.m. Another chance to defend their perfect home record. Another stage for Amaral and company to test how far this early-season momentum can carry them.
