Bradley Barcola's Transfer Dilemma: Liverpool and Arsenal Circling
Bradley Barcola is lighting up a World Cup and sitting on a transfer tightrope at the same time. Paris Saint-Germain can’t tie him down. Liverpool and Arsenal are circling. And Fabrizio Romano says the contract talks that were supposed to secure his future in Paris have ground to a halt.
The 23-year-old winger, fresh from scoring in France’s opening Group I win over Senegal, should be living a straightforward summer. He forced his way into Didier Deschamps’ 26-man squad on the back of a superb club campaign: 13 goals, seven assists, 49 appearances, and a central role in PSG’s successful defence of both the Champions League and Ligue 1 titles.
PSG know exactly what they have. Internally, they see one of the standout players in France, a talent with the ceiling of a genuine world-class forward. On paper, you build around that.
On the pitch, though, Luis Enrique’s hierarchy tells a different story. When the biggest games arrive, Barcola sits behind Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the pecking order. For a player entering his prime, that matters. It is one of the key reasons he is now weighing up a move.
Liverpool and Arsenal have sensed the hesitation and moved into position. PSG, aware of the interest, have drawn a hard line: €100m, around £86m, for any club that wants to test their resolve.
The problem for the French champions is that their stance is not backed by progress at the negotiating table. Romano revealed on his YouTube channel that talks over a new deal are not just slow; they have stopped.
“Negotiations between PSG and Barcola over a new contract are completely, completely on standby,” he said, stressing that there is no movement on an extension and no sign of a breakthrough. For a club desperate to protect the value of one of its crown jewels, that is a dangerous place to be.
The stalemate has opened the door. Liverpool and Arsenal are both on the scene, both on the phone, and both on Romano’s radar.
“Bradley Barcola is on Arsenal’s shortlist for sure, he’s one of the wingers appreciated, but Barcola is also on the list at Liverpool,” Romano explained. “Liverpool keep a close eye on the situation of Barcola. They like the player, he was on the shortlist in 2025 and remains on the shortlist in 2026. The feeling on this story is that it’s absolutely open at the moment.”
No agreement with PSG. No decision from the player. A market waiting.
Liverpool’s interest is not a passing glance. Inside the club, Barcola has moved from name on a list to weekly talking point. On the Born ‘N Red podcast, Romano went further, outlining how the Anfield hierarchy view him.
“Internally at Liverpool they are discussing Barcola every single week, it’s a player they appreciate, a player they wanted already in summer 2025, but it wasn’t possible. So, they love Barcola!”
That word matters. Love, not like. Especially in a window where their primary wide target is proving excruciatingly difficult to land.
Liverpool’s first choice has been RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande. They have already tested Leipzig with a €100m offer. The answer came back in blunt terms: pay €148m, around £128m, or walk away. For a club that prides itself on discipline in the market, that is a huge call.
Romano underlined the contrast between the two pursuits. “Liverpool are maintaining contacts for Diomande AND for Barcola,” he said. “It’s at completely different stages, because for Diomande they already sent an official bid, they are discussing with Leipzig, talking to the agents. With Barcola it’s an internal feeling I have.”
The Diomande chase has turned into a grind. A German journalist has already outlined why Leipzig are digging in, and the sense around Liverpool is that this one could collapse under the weight of the asking price. Every day that possibility grows, Barcola’s name carries a little more weight in the corridors of Anfield.
Arsenal, of course, are not watching this from a distance. They are in the race. Reports in France suggest the Gunners have drawn up an opening bid of €80m, roughly £69m, to test PSG’s stance. It is below the Paris valuation but high enough to be taken seriously. High enough to force Liverpool to decide how badly they want this player.
Complicating matters further for PSG, those same reports say Barcola is “thrilled” by the idea of moving to Anfield. The lure is obvious: a starring role in a reshaped Liverpool attack, a fanbase that idolises wide forwards, and the chance to grow into the role that Mohamed Salah has defined for a generation.
Liverpool have already made one significant move in that department, paying €40m (£34.5m) to bring Spanish winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna. He will add thrust, depth and competition, but the recruitment plan is clear: one signing is not enough. The club wants another wide player, someone who can both push Cody Gakpo and help bridge the looming gap when Salah finally hands over the baton.
Barcola fits that brief almost perfectly. Young but seasoned at the highest level, dangerous in the final third, and already delivering in the biggest club competition of all. A player shaped in the Champions League, not just dreaming of it.
PSG still hold the contract and the price tag. They still believe they can keep him. Yet with negotiations “completely on standby” and two Premier League heavyweights preparing their moves, the balance of power is shifting fast.
If Liverpool decide that Diomande is a battle not worth fighting at €148m, the spotlight will swing fully onto Barcola. Arsenal are already there, money on the table, plan in hand.
One of Europe’s brightest wide forwards is edging towards a decision. The only question now is whose shirt he pulls on when the next Champions League anthem plays.
