Barcelona Target Tottenham's Pedro Porro as Defensive Option

Barcelona are already moving their defensive pieces on the transfer chessboard, and they’ve picked out a Premier League standout as a potential answer if Jules Koundé’s situation turns.

According to reports in Spain, relayed by the Metro website, the Catalan club have opened talks with the camp of Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro to gauge the conditions for a summer move. The approach comes with Arsenal monitoring Koundé, whose name refuses to leave the rumour mill.

Gerard Romero reported on his YouTube channel that Barcelona have gone beyond a simple enquiry. In recent days, they have stepped up contact and even put an initial proposal on the table for Porro’s representatives, underlining how seriously they are treating the option.

Koundé, for now, is not pushing for the exit. He has shown no desire to leave and his future remains unresolved rather than decided. That grey area has forced Barcelona to act early, building a contingency plan before the market truly catches fire.

Porro, 26, has grown into one of Tottenham’s key figures. His form in North London has raised his profile, and he also started most of Spain’s matches during their run to winning the last World Cup, a stage that hardened his reputation as a big-game performer.

Tottenham moved to protect their asset last June, handing the Spanish defender a new contract running all the way to 2031. Inside the club, he enjoys the firm backing of coach Roberto De Zerbi, who views him as an important player with the ability to shape games both defensively and in the final third.

That blend of qualities explains Barcelona’s interest. Porro offers more than just a fixed role at right-back; he can operate across several positions along the back line, giving tactical flexibility that would be vital if Koundé were to depart.

For a Barcelona side trying to rebuild without losing competitiveness, a defender who can plug multiple gaps is not a luxury. It’s the kind of profile that could define how bold they can be when the next phase of their squad overhaul begins.
