Bajcetic Could Leave Liverpool for Celta Vigo

Liverpool’s midfield reshuffle is gathering pace, and Stefan Bajcetic could be the next to walk away from Anfield – this time for good.

Liverpool plucked Bajcetic from Celta Vigo’s academy in December 2020, paying the LaLiga club £224,000 to land a 16-year-old they believed would anchor their midfield for years. By 2022/23, that prediction looked on track. Jurgen Klopp trusted him in big moments, the Spaniard racking up 19 appearances and earning a new long-term contract as a reward for his rapid rise.

Then it stalled.

A string of niggling injuries disrupted his rhythm and halted his development just as he seemed ready to kick on. Since May 2024, he has not played a single competitive game for Liverpool. Instead, his 2024/25 season has been spent on loan, first at Red Bull Salzburg, then at Las Palmas, as the club searched for minutes and momentum he could no longer find on Merseyside.

Now, the break looks like it might become permanent.

According to Faro de Vigo, Bajcetic has emerged as a priority target for Celta Vigo, the club he left six years ago. Talks have already taken place. The Spanish outlet reports he is “closer than ever to returning home” and that Celta “wants him back”.

There is a catch.

Celta’s move hinges on Liverpool ripping up the final year of his Anfield contract. Only if the Reds agree to terminate that deal can the Galicians bring him back on terms that work for them.

Liverpool, for their part, are thought to be weighing it up. With little chance of banking a significant transfer fee, the club are understood to be open to a compromise: allow Bajcetic to leave for free now, but protect their long-term interests with a sell-on clause. If his career takes off back in Spain, Liverpool would still see some benefit down the line.

For a player once tipped as a long-term pillar of Liverpool’s midfield, it is a stark turning point. For Celta, it could be the homecoming that reignites a stalled trajectory.

Ramsay heads out again – and likely for the last time

On the other side of the squad, another once-promising project has taken what looks like his final step away from Liverpool.

Calvin Ramsay has left Anfield on loan yet again, this time to St Mirren, in a move that all but closes the book on his Liverpool career.

Signed from Aberdeen for £4.2m in June 2022, Ramsay arrived as the energetic young full-back who might push – or at least back up – Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right. That battle never materialised. Injuries and inconsistency bit hard, and the Scotland international managed only four senior appearances for the club.

The pattern since then has been familiar and unforgiving. Loan after loan, each one billed as the spell that would kickstart his development: Preston, Bolton, Wigan, and most recently Kilmarnock. Across those stints, he has managed just 26 appearances, with his most productive run coming at Wigan, where he played 12 times in the 2024/25 campaign.

Now 21 and in the final year of his Liverpool contract, Ramsay has been sent to St Mirren on a season-long loan. The Scottish Premiership side have no option to buy written into the deal. They are simply getting a player desperate for a reset.

Liverpool’s stance, though, is clear. With his contract ticking down and no pathway into the first team, this move effectively signals the end of his time on Merseyside.

For Ramsay, Paisley offers something more valuable than any clause: a clean slate. If he can stay fit and string together a consistent run of games, the right-back still has time to rescue the promise that once persuaded Liverpool to invest in him.
